On Tuesday 27th November the Conservative Disability Group launched its paper on the 'Power of the Purple Pound' to highlight the spending power of disabled consumers and the opportunities for businesses to respond to this element of the economy. The report was based on the CDG's Colloquium event earlier in the year and the report highlighted some of the key themes which emerged from the panel discussions.
The launch event took the format of a roundtable discussion in Parliament, hosted by the CDG's President - The Rt. Hon. Maria Miller MP - and was attended by the Minister for Disabled People, Health & Work - Sarah Newton MP - and other CDG Parliamentary Supporters - including Lord Shinkwin.
The event also included representatives from across the disability sector and included short presentations from Scope and the Ignition Brewery & Community Tap in Lewisham, London, a social enterprise which employs people with a learning disability at the London Living Wage.
