In their hour of need, the CDG supports the democratically elected government of Ukraine and its people. Over the past two weeks, we have witnessed the horrors unleashed by Russia on Ukraine and it is difficult to imagine what the people of besieged towns and cities are having to endure with indiscriminate shelling.
Unfortunately, it is disabled people, the elderly and children who have additional travel difficulties when escaping such horrors. Having to use inaccessible trains and buses to evacuate their homes, makes reaching a place of safety more challenging. In recent days, we have seen news reports of children who are receiving lifesaving treatments for cancer having to be evacuated to neighbouring countries.
We ask the UK government to speed up the process of issuing visas to Ukrainian refugees and provide the safety and compassion they deserve.
We hope the Ukrainian people who have had to leave their homes and seek sanctuary in neighbouring countries will be supported and able to return home soon.
